A bus accident verdict in Alexandria, Virginia provides good news for Washington DC and Virginia pedestrians, albeit arising from terrible circumstances. A recent Alexandria Virginia verdict awarded $4.5 million to Sherry Galloway, the woman run over by an Alexandria Virginia DASH bus last year near the King Street metro station. This is great news for anybody who has been terrorized in the streets of Washington DC and Virginia by buses speeding by and for the plaintiff, whose life has been tragically altered by the accident. Incredibly, the bus driver had four preventable accidents before this one. Videotape of the accident shows that the driver wasn’t looking forward when she crushed Sherry Galloway’s body and future.
According to The Washington Post, Sherry Galloway suffered numerous permanent injuries to her legs and head, including ”degloving” the skin and tissue from her leg muscles. She cannot sit for long periods of time, and will never work again. As multi-mullion dollar jury awards in personal injury lawsuits rarely occur in Virginia, this is a noteworthy result, secured by excellent advocacy as well as an egregious set of facts which led to the preventable fifth accident.
